Contactless smart bins for waste management

Contactless smart bins for waste management
1 June 2020

City of Zagreb is raising the standard of municipal services by applying solutions made as part of the smart city development concept using Croatian products. Contactless smart waste bins have been set up in the centre of Zagreb, on European Square. They are the result of years of work put in by top Croatian experts at EcoMobile.

Fully developed and made in Croatia, these bins allow for contactless waste disposal – after standing in front of them for more than two seconds, they open automatically.

They are equipped with real-time fill level sensors and an app that allows for the creation of optimal collection routes, which decreases the number of public waste pickups by over 80%. In addition, the bin is autonomous and efficient, since it is solar-powered and equipped with a press that compacts the waste, making its volume six times smaller.

A fully equipped recycling island has been set up on European Square, which includes smart bins for waste paper, plastic and metal packaging and glass, with separate smart bins for small mixed municipal waste.

Smart bins for waste management help keep public areas clean and neat by notifying the utilities company, which increases the quality of life in the city.
They are extremely time-saving and energy-efficient and they also help reduce total operating costs.
